GeForce 930M vs Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB

Intro

The GeForce 930M has a GPU core clock speed of 928 MHz, and the 2048 MB of DDR3 RAM runs at 900 MHz through a 64-bit bus. It also features 384 Stream Processors, 24 TAUs, and 8 Raster Operation Units.

Compare all of that to the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB, which features clock speeds of 750 MHz on the GPU, and 900 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 160 SPUs as well as 8 TAUs and 4 Rasterization Operator Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB will be 100% quicker than the GeForce 930M overall, because of its higher data rate. (explain)

Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 28800 MB/sec
GeForce 930M 14400 MB/sec
Difference: 14400 (100%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce 930M should be much (about 271%) faster with regards to AF than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB. (explain)

GeForce 930M 22272 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 6000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 16272 (271%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce 930M should be much (approximately 147%) better at AA than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB, and also should be capable of handling higher screen resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)

GeForce 930M 7424 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 3000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 4424 (147%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of data (counted in MB per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface within a second. It's calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR type RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card could possibly write to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.
