GeForce 8800 GT 1GB vs GeForce GTX Titan Black

Intro

The GeForce 8800 GT 1GB features clock speeds of 600 MHz on the GPU, and 900 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR3 RAM. It features 112 SPUs as well as 56 Texture Address Units and 16 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare that to the GeForce GTX Titan Black, which has a GPU core clock speed of 889 MHz, and 6144 MB of GDDR5 memory set to run at 1750 MHz through a 384-bit bus. It also is comprised of 2880 Stream Processors, 240 Texture Address Units, and 48 ROPs.

Memory Bandwidth

The GeForce GTX Titan Black should in theory be quite a bit faster than the GeForce 8800 GT 1GB overall. (explain)

GeForce GTX Titan Black 336000 MB/sec
GeForce 8800 GT 1GB 57600 MB/sec
Difference: 278400 (483%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX Titan Black should be quite a bit (about 535%) more effective at anisotropic filtering than the GeForce 8800 GT 1GB. (explain)

GeForce GTX Titan Black 213360 Mtexels/sec
GeForce 8800 GT 1GB 33600 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 179760 (535%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce GTX Titan Black is a lot (more or less 345%) better at anti-aliasing than the GeForce 8800 GT 1GB, and also capable of handling higher screen resolutions more effectively. (explain)

GeForce GTX Titan Black 42672 Mpixels/sec
GeForce 8800 GT 1GB 9600 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 33072 (345%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of data (in units of megabytes per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface in one second. It's worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory speed. In the case of DDR type memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are applied per second. This is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the video card could possibly record to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
