Geforce GTX 760 vs Radeon HD 6770 1GB

Intro

The Geforce GTX 760 comes with core speeds of 980 MHz on the GPU, and 1502 MHz on the 2048 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 1152 SPUs along with 96 Texture Address Units and 32 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Radeon HD 6770 1GB, which has a GPU core clock speed of 900 MHz, and 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory running at 1050 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also is made up of 800 Stream Processors, 40 Texture Address Units, and 16 ROPs.

Geforce GTX 760 170 Watts
Difference: 62 Watts (57%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Geforce GTX 760 should perform much faster than the Radeon HD 6770 1GB overall. (explain)

Geforce GTX 760 192256 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6770 1GB 67200 MB/sec
Difference: 125056 (186%)

Texel Rate

The Geforce GTX 760 is much (approximately 161%) better at texture filtering than the Radeon HD 6770 1GB. (explain)

Geforce GTX 760 94080 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6770 1GB 36000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 58080 (161%)

Pixel Rate

If using high levels of AA is important to you, then the Geforce GTX 760 is a better choice, by far. (explain)

Geforce GTX 760 31360 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6770 1GB 14400 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 16960 (118%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of information (measured in MB per second) that can be transported past the external memory interface within a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR type memory, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics chip could possibly record to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is calculated by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate also depends on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
