GeForce GT 315 vs Geforce GTX 770

Intro

The GeForce GT 315 comes with a GPU core clock speed of 625 MHz, and the 512 MB of DDR3 memory is set to run at 790 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also is made up of 48 SPUs, 16 Texture Address Units, and 8 Raster Operation Units.

Compare that to the Geforce GTX 770, which uses a 28 nm design. nVidia has set the core speed at 1046 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM is set to run at a frequency of 1753 MHz on this card. It features 1536 SPUs along with 128 Texture Address Units and 32 Rasterization Operator Units.

GeForce GT 315 52 Watts
Geforce GTX 770 230 Watts
Difference: 178 Watts (342%)

Memory Bandwidth

As far as performance goes, the Geforce GTX 770 should in theory be much better than the GeForce GT 315 overall. (explain)

Geforce GTX 770 224384 MB/sec
GeForce GT 315 25280 MB/sec
Difference: 199104 (788%)

Texel Rate

The Geforce GTX 770 is quite a bit (about 1239%) better at AF than the GeForce GT 315. (explain)

Geforce GTX 770 133888 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GT 315 10000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 123888 (1239%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high resolution is important to you, then the Geforce GTX 770 is superior to the GeForce GT 315, by far. (explain)

Geforce GTX 770 33472 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GT 315 5000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 28472 (569%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of information (in units of megabytes per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface in one second. It is worked out by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR memory, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics card could possibly write to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
