Geforce GTX 770 vs Radeon HD 5670

Intro

The Geforce GTX 770 makes use of a 28 nm design. nVidia has set the core speed at 1046 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM works at a frequency of 1753 MHz on this specific model. It features 1536 SPUs along with 128 Texture Address Units and 32 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon HD 5670, which comes with core speeds of 775 MHz on the GPU, and 1000 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 400(80x5) SPUs as well as 20 Texture Address Units and 8 Rasterization Operator Units.

Geforce GTX 770 224384 MB/sec
Radeon HD 5670 64000 MB/sec
Difference: 160384 (251%)

Texel Rate

The Geforce GTX 770 will be much (more or less 764%) better at AF than the Radeon HD 5670. (explain)

Geforce GTX 770 133888 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 5670 15500 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 118388 (764%)

Pixel Rate

The Geforce GTX 770 is a lot (more or less 440%) faster with regards to FSAA than the Radeon HD 5670, and able to handle higher screen resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)

Geforce GTX 770 33472 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 5670 6200 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 27272 (440%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (counted in megabytes per second) that can be transported past the external memory interface within a second. It is worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory clock speed. If it uses DDR type RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the graphics card could possibly record to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the number of ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the maximum fill rate.
