Geforce GTX 780 vs Radeon HD 3650

Intro

The Geforce GTX 780 comes with core clock speeds of 863 MHz on the GPU, and 1502 MHz on the 3072 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 2304 SPUs along with 192 Texture Address Units and 48 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare all of that to the Radeon HD 3650, which comes with core clock speeds of 725 MHz on the GPU, and 800 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR4 memory. It features 120(24x5) SPUs along with 8 Texture Address Units and 4 Rasterization Operator Units.

Radeon HD 3650 78 Watts
Geforce GTX 780 250 Watts
Difference: 172 Watts (221%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Geforce GTX 780 should be 1027% quicker than the Radeon HD 3650 overall, because of its higher bandwidth. (explain)

Geforce GTX 780 288384 MB/sec
Radeon HD 3650 25600 MB/sec
Difference: 262784 (1027%)

Texel Rate

The Geforce GTX 780 should be a lot (approximately 2757%) better at AF than the Radeon HD 3650. (explain)

Geforce GTX 780 165696 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 3650 5800 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 159896 (2757%)

Pixel Rate

If using high levels of AA is important to you, then the Geforce GTX 780 is the winner, by far. (explain)

Geforce GTX 780 41424 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 3650 2900 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 38524 (1328%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of data (in units of MB per second) that can be moved over the external memory interface within a second. The number is calculated by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card can possibly write to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
