GeForce GTX 460 1GB vs GeForce GTX 650 Ti

Intro

The GeForce GTX 460 1GB comes with a GPU clock speed of 675 MHz, and the 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory runs at 900 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also features 336 Stream Processors, 56 TAUs, and 32 ROPs.

Compare all that to the GeForce GTX 650 Ti, which features a GPU core clock speed of 928 MHz, and 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory set to run at 1350 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also features 768 SPUs, 64 TAUs, and 16 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce GTX 650 Ti 110 Watts
GeForce GTX 460 1GB 160 Watts
Difference: 50 Watts (45%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the GeForce GTX 460 1GB should perform quite a bit faster than the GeForce GTX 650 Ti in general. (explain)

GeForce GTX 460 1GB 115200 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 650 Ti 86400 MB/sec
Difference: 28800 (33%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 650 Ti should be a lot (more or less 57%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the GeForce GTX 460 1GB. (explain)

GeForce GTX 650 Ti 59392 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 460 1GB 37800 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 21592 (57%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high resolution is important to you, then the GeForce GTX 460 1GB is a better choice, by a large margin. (explain)

GeForce GTX 460 1GB 21600 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 650 Ti 14848 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 6752 (45%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of information (in units of megabytes per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface within a second. It's calculated by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are applied per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total texture units by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics chip can possibly write to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the number of ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
