Compare any two graphics cards:
Radeon HD 6870 vs Radeon HD 7850
IntroThe Radeon HD 6870 uses a 40 nm design. AMD has clocked the core speed at 900 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM works at a frequency of 1050 MHz on this particular card. It features 1120 SPUs along with 56 Texture Address Units and 32 Rasterization Operator Units.Compare all that to the Radeon HD 7850, which has a core clock speed of 860 MHz and a GDDR5 memory frequency of 1200 MHz. It also uses a 256-bit bus, and uses a 28 nm design. It is made up of 1024 SPUs, 64 Texture Address Units, and 32 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical BenchmarksPower Consumption (Max TDP)
Memory BandwidthTheoretically speaking, the Radeon HD 7850 should be just a bit faster than the Radeon HD 6870 in general. (explain)
Texel RateThe Radeon HD 7850 is a small bit (approximately 9%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the Radeon HD 6870. (explain)
Pixel RateThe Radeon HD 6870 will be just a bit (about 5%) better at FSAA than the Radeon HD 7850, and also capable of handling higher screen resolutions without losing too much performance. (explain)
Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit. Price Comparison

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of information (measured in MB per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface in one second. It is worked out by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR type memory, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions. Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second. Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the video card can possibly record to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.
