Radeon HD 4670 512MB vs Radeon HD 7750

Intro

The Radeon HD 4670 512MB features core clock speeds of 750 MHz on the GPU, and 1000 MHz on the 512 MB of GDDR4/GDDR3/DDR3/DDR2 memory. It features 320(64x5) SPUs as well as 32 Texture Address Units and 8 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon HD 7750, which uses a 28 nm design. AMD has clocked the core speed at 800 MHz. The GDDR5 memory works at a speed of 1125 MHz on this card. It features 512 SPUs along with 32 TAUs and 16 Rasterization Operator Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon HD 7750 55 Watts
Radeon HD 4670 512MB 70 Watts
Difference: 15 Watts (27%)

Memory Bandwidth

As far as performance goes, the Radeon HD 7750 should theoretically be quite a bit superior to the Radeon HD 4670 512MB overall. (explain)

Radeon HD 7750 72000 MB/sec
Radeon HD 4670 512MB 32000 MB/sec
Difference: 40000 (125%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 7750 should be a bit (about 7%) more effective at anisotropic filtering than the Radeon HD 4670 512MB. (explain)

Radeon HD 7750 25600 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 4670 512MB 24000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 1600 (7%)

Pixel Rate

If using lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the Radeon HD 7750 is superior to the Radeon HD 4670 512MB, by a large margin. (explain)

Radeon HD 7750 12800 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 4670 512MB 6000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 6800 (113%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of data (in units of megabytes per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface within a second. It's calculated by multiplying the bus width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This is worked out by multiplying the total texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card can possibly record to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the number of colour ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
