Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB 63 Watts
Radeon HD 7950 200 Watts
Difference: 137 Watts (217%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon HD 7950 should be 275% faster than the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB overall, because of its greater data rate. (explain)

Radeon HD 7950 240000 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB 64000 MB/sec
Difference: 176000 (275%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 7950 should be much (more or less 367%) faster with regards to AF than the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB. (explain)

Radeon HD 7950 89600 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB 19200 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 70400 (367%)

Pixel Rate

If running with high levels of AA is important to you, then the Radeon HD 7950 is the winner, and very much so. (explain)

Radeon HD 7950 25600 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB 6400 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 19200 (300%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of data (counted in MB per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface in one second. It is worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the graphics card can possibly write to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel output rate also depends on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
