GeForce GT 210 vs Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB

Intro

The GeForce GT 210 comes with a GPU core speed of 589 MHz, and the 512 MB of DDR3 memory runs at 800 MHz through a 64-bit bus. It also is comprised of 16 Stream Processors, 8 TAUs, and 4 ROPs.

Compare all of that to the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB, which features GPU core speed of 750 MHz, and 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory set to run at 900 MHz through a 64-bit bus. It also is made up of 160 SPUs, 8 TAUs, and 4 Raster Operation Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Both cards have the same power consumption.

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB is 125% quicker than the GeForce GT 210 in general, because of its higher bandwidth. (explain)

Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 28800 MB/sec
GeForce GT 210 12800 MB/sec
Difference: 16000 (125%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB should be quite a bit (about 27%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the GeForce GT 210. (explain)

Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 6000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GT 210 4712 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 1288 (27%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB will be quite a bit (more or less 27%) faster with regards to FSAA than the GeForce GT 210, and also will be capable of handling higher screen resolutions without losing too much performance. (explain)

Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 1GB 3000 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GT 210 2356 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 644 (27%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of data (counted in megabytes per second) that can be transported over the external memory interface in one second. The number is worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory clock speed. If the card has DDR RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the video card could possibly record to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
