Radeon RX 6600 XT vs Radeon RX 7900 XT

Intro

The Radeon RX 6600 XT features a clock speed of 1968 MHz and a GDDR6 memory speed of 2000 MHz. It also features a 128-bit memory bus, and uses a 7 nm design. It features 2048 SPUs, 128 Texture Address Units, and 64 Raster Operation Units.

Compare all of that to the Radeon RX 7900 XT, which comes with core speeds of 1500 MHz on the GPU, and 2500 MHz on the 20480 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 5376 SPUs as well as 336 Texture Address Units and 192 ROPs.

Radeon RX 7900 XT 300 Watts
Difference: 140 Watts (88%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the Radeon RX 7900 XT will be 213% quicker than the Radeon RX 6600 XT overall, due to its higher data rate. (explain)

Radeon RX 7900 XT 819200 MB/sec
Radeon RX 6600 XT 262144 MB/sec
Difference: 557056 (213%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 7900 XT is a lot (more or less 100%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the Radeon RX 6600 XT. (explain)

Radeon RX 7900 XT 504000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 6600 XT 251904 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 252096 (100%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high resolution is important to you, then the Radeon RX 7900 XT is a better choice, by far. (explain)

Radeon RX 7900 XT 288000 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 6600 XT 125952 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 162048 (129%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transported over the external memory interface in a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics chip can possibly write to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
