GeForce GTX 1630 vs Radeon R9 270X

Intro

The GeForce GTX 1630 has core speeds of 1740 MHz on the GPU, and 1500 MHz on the 4096 MB of GDDR6 memory. It features 512 SPUs as well as 32 TAUs and 16 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon R9 270X, which features clock speeds of 1000 MHz on the GPU, and 1400 MHz on the 2048 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 1280 SPUs along with 80 Texture Address Units and 32 Rasterization Operator Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce GTX 1630 75 Watts
Radeon R9 270X 180 Watts
Difference: 105 Watts (140%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the Radeon R9 270X will be 82% quicker than the GeForce GTX 1630 in general, due to its higher bandwidth. (explain)

Radeon R9 270X 179200 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 1630 98304 MB/sec
Difference: 80896 (82%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon R9 270X should be much (about 44%) faster with regards to AF than the GeForce GTX 1630. (explain)

Radeon R9 270X 80000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 1630 55680 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 24320 (44%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high screen resolution is important to you, then the Radeon R9 270X is the winner, but not by far. (explain)

Radeon R9 270X 32000 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 1630 27840 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 4160 (15%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of data (counted in MB per second) that can be transported past the external memory interface within a second. The number is calculated by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are applied per second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the video card could possibly record to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
