GeForce GTX 1060 vs Radeon RX 6950 XT

Intro

The GeForce GTX 1060 features a GPU core clock speed of 1506 MHz, and the 6144 MB of GDDR5 memory is set to run at 2000 MHz through a 192-bit bus. It also is made up of 1280 Stream Processors, 80 TAUs, and 48 Raster Operation Units.

Compare that to the Radeon RX 6950 XT, which uses a 7 nm design. AMD has set the core speed at 1925 MHz. The GDDR6 RAM runs at a frequency of 2250 MHz on this particular card. It features 5120 SPUs along with 320 TAUs and 128 Rasterization Operator Units.

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon RX 6950 XT should theoretically perform quite a bit faster than the GeForce GTX 1060 overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 6950 XT 589824 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 1060 196608 MB/sec
Difference: 393216 (200%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6950 XT is much (more or less 411%) faster with regards to AF than the GeForce GTX 1060. (explain)

Radeon RX 6950 XT 616000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 1060 120480 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 495520 (411%)

Pixel Rate

If running with lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the Radeon RX 6950 XT is superior to the GeForce GTX 1060, by a large margin. (explain)

Radeon RX 6950 XT 246400 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 1060 72288 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 174112 (241%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of information (in units of megabytes per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface in one second. The number is worked out by multiplying the bus width by its memory clock speed. If the card has DDR type memory, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics card can possibly write to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is calculated by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
