GeForce GTX 1050 3GB vs Radeon RX 6950 XT

Intro

The GeForce GTX 1050 3GB has core speeds of 1392 MHz on the GPU, and 1750 MHz on the 3072 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 768 SPUs along with 48 TAUs and 24 ROPs.

Compare all of that to the Radeon RX 6950 XT, which features GPU clock speed of 1925 MHz, and 16384 MB of GDDR6 memory running at 2250 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also is made up of 5120 Stream Processors, 320 TAUs, and 128 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce GTX 1050 3GB 75 Watts
Radeon RX 6950 XT 335 Watts
Difference: 260 Watts (347%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the Radeon RX 6950 XT should perform quite a bit faster than the GeForce GTX 1050 3GB in general. (explain)

Radeon RX 6950 XT 589824 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 1050 3GB 86016 MB/sec
Difference: 503808 (586%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6950 XT will be a lot (more or less 822%) more effective at texture filtering than the GeForce GTX 1050 3GB. (explain)

Radeon RX 6950 XT 616000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 1050 3GB 66816 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 549184 (822%)

Pixel Rate

If running with lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the Radeon RX 6950 XT is the winner, and very much so. (explain)

Radeon RX 6950 XT 246400 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 1050 3GB 33408 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 212992 (638%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (measured in MB per second) that can be transported over the external memory interface in a second. It is calculated by multiplying the interface width by its memory speed. In the case of DDR memory, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics card can possibly write to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
