Radeon RX 470 vs Radeon RX 6750 XT

Intro

The Radeon RX 470 uses a 14 nm design. AMD has set the core frequency at 926 MHz. The GDDR5 memory runs at a speed of 1650 MHz on this model. It features 2048 SPUs as well as 128 TAUs and 32 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon RX 6750 XT, which features clock speeds of 2150 MHz on the GPU, and 2250 MHz on the 12288 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 2560 SPUs as well as 160 Texture Address Units and 64 ROPs.

Memory Bandwidth

As far as performance goes, the Radeon RX 6750 XT should theoretically be quite a bit better than the Radeon RX 470 overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 442368 MB/sec
Radeon RX 470 211200 MB/sec
Difference: 231168 (109%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6750 XT will be a lot (approximately 190%) more effective at texture filtering than the Radeon RX 470. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 344000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 470 118528 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 225472 (190%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 6750 XT will be quite a bit (approximately 364%) better at full screen anti-aliasing than the Radeon RX 470, and also capable of handling higher resolutions while still performing well. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 137600 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 470 29632 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 107968 (364%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of data (counted in megabytes per second) that can be moved across the external memory interface in a second. It is calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR memory, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This is calculated by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics card could possibly record to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is calculated by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
