Radeon RX 590 vs Radeon RX 6750 XT

Intro

The Radeon RX 590 has a core clock frequency of 1469 MHz and a GDDR5 memory frequency of 2000 MHz. It also features a 256-bit bus, and makes use of a 12 nm design. It is comprised of 2304 SPUs, 144 TAUs, and 32 Raster Operation Units.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon RX 6750 XT, which has GPU core speed of 2150 MHz, and 12288 MB of GDDR6 memory set to run at 2250 MHz through a 192-bit bus. It also is made up of 2560 Stream Processors, 160 Texture Address Units, and 64 Raster Operation Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon RX 590 175 Watts
Radeon RX 6750 XT 250 Watts
Difference: 75 Watts (43%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the Radeon RX 6750 XT should be 69% faster than the Radeon RX 590 overall, due to its higher bandwidth. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 442368 MB/sec
Radeon RX 590 262144 MB/sec
Difference: 180224 (69%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6750 XT should be a lot (about 63%) better at AF than the Radeon RX 590. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 344000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 590 211536 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 132464 (63%)

Pixel Rate

If using lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the Radeon RX 6750 XT is a better choice, by far. (explain)

Radeon RX 6750 XT 137600 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 590 47008 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 90592 (193%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (measured in MB per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface within a second. It's worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory speed. If it uses DDR memory, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics chip can possibly write to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the number of colour ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.
