Radeon RX 6500 XT vs Radeon RX 6800

Intro

The Radeon RX 6500 XT comes with core clock speeds of 2200 MHz on the GPU, and 2250 MHz on the 4096 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 1024 SPUs along with 64 Texture Address Units and 32 ROPs.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon RX 6800, which has a clock frequency of 1700 MHz and a GDDR6 memory frequency of 2000 MHz. It also uses a 256-bit memory bus, and makes use of a 7 nm design. It is comprised of 3840 SPUs, 240 Texture Address Units, and 96 Raster Operation Units.

As far as performance goes, the Radeon RX 6800 should theoretically be a lot better than the Radeon RX 6500 XT overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 6800 524288 MB/sec
Radeon RX 6500 XT 147456 MB/sec
Difference: 376832 (256%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6800 is a lot (approximately 190%) more effective at texture filtering than the Radeon RX 6500 XT. (explain)

Radeon RX 6800 408000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 6500 XT 140800 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 267200 (190%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 6800 is a lot (approximately 132%) better at AA than the Radeon RX 6500 XT, and should be able to handle higher screen resolutions better. (explain)

Radeon RX 6800 163200 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 6500 XT 70400 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 92800 (132%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of data (in units of MB per second) that can be moved across the external memory interface in a second. It's worked out by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR type memory, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card could possibly write to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is calculated by multiplying the number of colour ROPs by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
