Radeon RX 6500 XT vs Radeon RX 6800 XT

Intro

The Radeon RX 6500 XT features a GPU clock speed of 2200 MHz, and the 4096 MB of GDDR6 memory is set to run at 2250 MHz through a 64-bit bus. It also features 1024 Stream Processors, 64 Texture Address Units, and 32 Raster Operation Units.

Compare all that to the Radeon RX 6800 XT, which features core clock speeds of 1825 MHz on the GPU, and 2000 MHz on the 16384 MB of GDDR6 memory. It features 4608 SPUs along with 288 TAUs and 128 Rasterization Operator Units.

Radeon RX 6800 XT 300 Watts
Difference: 193 Watts (180%)

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon RX 6800 XT should theoretically be much faster than the Radeon RX 6500 XT in general. (explain)

Radeon RX 6800 XT 524288 MB/sec
Radeon RX 6500 XT 147456 MB/sec
Difference: 376832 (256%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6800 XT should be quite a bit (approximately 273%) better at texture filtering than the Radeon RX 6500 XT. (explain)

Radeon RX 6800 XT 525600 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 6500 XT 140800 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 384800 (273%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 6800 XT is a lot (about 232%) more effective at FSAA than the Radeon RX 6500 XT, and also will be capable of handling higher resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)

Radeon RX 6800 XT 233600 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 6500 XT 70400 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 163200 (232%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of data (in units of megabytes per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface in a second. The number is calculated by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR memory, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the graphics card could possibly record to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate also depends on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the maximum fill rate.
