GeForce RTX 3070 Ti vs Radeon RX 6600 XT

Intro

The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti has a GPU core speed of 1575 MHz, and the 8192 MB of GDDR6X memory runs at 1188 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also features 6144 Stream Processors, 192 Texture Address Units, and 96 ROPs.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon RX 6600 XT, which has core speeds of 1968 MHz on the GPU, and 2000 MHz on the 8192 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 2048 SPUs along with 128 Texture Address Units and 64 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon RX 6600 XT 160 Watts
GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 290 Watts
Difference: 130 Watts (81%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically, the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti should be much faster than the Radeon RX 6600 XT in general. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 622899 MB/sec
Radeon RX 6600 XT 262144 MB/sec
Difference: 360755 (138%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce RTX 3070 Ti will be just a bit (more or less 20%) faster with regards to AF than the Radeon RX 6600 XT. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 302400 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 6600 XT 251904 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 50496 (20%)

Pixel Rate

If using high levels of AA is important to you, then the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti is the winner, but not by far. (explain)

GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 151200 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 6600 XT 125952 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 25248 (20%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface in a second. It's calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory clock speed. If it uses DDR type RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the video card can possibly write to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
