GeForce 825M vs Radeon RX 6900 XT

Intro

The GeForce 825M features a clock frequency of 850 MHz and a DDR3 memory speed of 900 MHz. It also uses a 64-bit bus, and makes use of a 28 nm design. It is made up of 384 SPUs, 16 Texture Address Units, and 8 Raster Operation Units.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon RX 6900 XT, which makes use of a 7 nm design. AMD has clocked the core frequency at 1825 MHz. The GDDR6 RAM works at a frequency of 2000 MHz on this specific card. It features 5120 SPUs along with 320 TAUs and 128 Rasterization Operator Units.

GeForce 825M 33 Watts
Radeon RX 6900 XT 300 Watts
Difference: 267 Watts (809%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the Radeon RX 6900 XT should perform quite a bit faster than the GeForce 825M in general. (explain)

Radeon RX 6900 XT 524288 MB/sec
GeForce 825M 14400 MB/sec
Difference: 509888 (3541%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6900 XT will be a lot (more or less 4194%) better at AF than the GeForce 825M. (explain)

Radeon RX 6900 XT 584000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce 825M 13600 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 570400 (4194%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 6900 XT will be much (more or less 3335%) better at FSAA than the GeForce 825M, and should be able to handle higher screen resolutions better. (explain)

Radeon RX 6900 XT 233600 Mpixels/sec
GeForce 825M 6800 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 226800 (3335%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (in units of MB per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface in a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory clock speed. In the case of DDR type RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are applied in one second. This is worked out by multiplying the total texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the video card can possibly write to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the number of colour ROPs by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.
