Radeon RX 6800 XT vs Radeon RX 6900 XT

Intro

The Radeon RX 6800 XT features a core clock speed of 1825 MHz and a GDDR6 memory speed of 2000 MHz. It also makes use of a 256-bit memory bus, and makes use of a 7 nm design. It features 4608 SPUs, 288 TAUs, and 128 ROPs.

Compare that to the Radeon RX 6900 XT, which comes with core speeds of 1825 MHz on the GPU, and 2000 MHz on the 16384 MB of GDDR6 RAM. It features 5120 SPUs along with 320 Texture Address Units and 128 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Both cards have the same power consumption.

Memory Bandwidth

Both cards have the exact same bandwidth, so theoretically they should perform the same. (explain)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6900 XT is a bit (more or less 11%) better at anisotropic filtering than the Radeon RX 6800 XT. (explain)

Radeon RX 6900 XT 584000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 6800 XT 525600 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 58400 (11%)

Pixel Rate

Both cards have exactly the same pixel fill rate, so theoretically they should perform equally good at at AA, and be capable of handling the same resolutions. (explain)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (measured in megabytes per second) that can be moved over the external memory interface within a second. It's calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics chip can possibly record to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
