Radeon RX 460 vs Radeon RX 6800 XT

Intro

The Radeon RX 460 makes use of a 14 nm design. AMD has set the core frequency at 1090 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM is set to run at a frequency of 1750 MHz on this specific card. It features 896 SPUs as well as 56 TAUs and 16 ROPs.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon RX 6800 XT, which features a clock frequency of 1825 MHz and a GDDR6 memory frequency of 2000 MHz. It also features a 256-bit memory bus, and uses a 7 nm design. It features 4608 SPUs, 288 TAUs, and 128 ROPs.

The Radeon RX 6800 XT should theoretically perform a lot faster than the Radeon RX 460 in general. (explain)

Radeon RX 6800 XT 524288 MB/sec
Radeon RX 460 112000 MB/sec
Difference: 412288 (368%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 6800 XT is a lot (about 761%) more effective at anisotropic filtering than the Radeon RX 460. (explain)

Radeon RX 6800 XT 525600 Mtexels/sec
Radeon RX 460 61040 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 464560 (761%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high screen resolution is important to you, then the Radeon RX 6800 XT is superior to the Radeon RX 460, by far. (explain)

Radeon RX 6800 XT 233600 Mpixels/sec
Radeon RX 460 17440 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 216160 (1239%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (counted in MB per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface in a second. It is calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR type memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the video card could possibly record to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel output rate also depends on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the maximum fill rate.
