Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

Performance-wise, the Radeon HD 4790 should theoretically be much better than the Radeon R9 M375X overall. (explain)

Radeon HD 4790 102400 MB/sec
Radeon R9 M375X 72000 MB/sec
Difference: 30400 (42%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon R9 M375X will be quite a bit (more or less 111%) faster with regards to AF than the Radeon HD 4790. (explain)

Radeon R9 M375X 40600 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 4790 19200 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 21400 (111%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high screen resolution is important to you, then the Radeon R9 M375X is superior to the Radeon HD 4790, by far. (explain)

Radeon R9 M375X 16240 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 4790 9600 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 6640 (69%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of data (counted in megabytes per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface within a second. It's worked out by multiplying the bus width by its memory clock speed. If it uses DDR memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics chip can possibly write to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel fill rate also depends on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
