Radeon HD 3650 vs Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB

Intro

The Radeon HD 3650 has a core clock frequency of 725 MHz and a GDDR4 memory speed of 800 MHz. It also features a 128-bit memory bus, and makes use of a 55 nm design. It is comprised of 120(24x5) SPUs, 8 TAUs, and 4 Raster Operation Units.

Compare all that to the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB, which features clock speeds of 650 MHz on the GPU, and 900 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR3 memory. It features 480 SPUs as well as 24 Texture Address Units and 8 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB 50 Watts
Radeon HD 3650 78 Watts
Difference: 28 Watts (56%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB is 13% faster than the Radeon HD 3650 in general, because of its greater data rate. (explain)

Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB 28800 MB/sec
Radeon HD 3650 25600 MB/sec
Difference: 3200 (13%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB will be quite a bit (about 169%) better at AF than the Radeon HD 3650. (explain)

Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB 15600 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 3650 5800 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 9800 (169%)

Pixel Rate

If running with lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB is a better choice, and very much so. (explain)

Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB 5200 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 3650 2900 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 2300 (79%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface within a second. It is calculated by multiplying the interface width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are applied per second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics card could possibly write to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel output rate also depends on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
