Radeon HD 4730 vs Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB

Intro

The Radeon HD 4730 has a core clock speed of 700 MHz and a GDDR5 memory speed of 900 MHz. It also makes use of a 128-bit bus, and makes use of a 55 nm design. It is comprised of 640(128x5) SPUs, 32 Texture Address Units, and 8 Raster Operation Units.

Compare all that to the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB, which has core clock speeds of 650 MHz on the GPU, and 900 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR3 RAM. It features 480 SPUs along with 24 TAUs and 8 Rasterization Operator Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB 50 Watts
Radeon HD 4730 140 Watts
Difference: 90 Watts (180%)

Memory Bandwidth

Performance-wise, the Radeon HD 4730 should in theory be quite a bit better than the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB overall. (explain)

Radeon HD 4730 57600 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB 28800 MB/sec
Difference: 28800 (100%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 4730 should be quite a bit (approximately 44%) more effective at AF than the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB. (explain)

Radeon HD 4730 22400 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB 15600 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 6800 (44%)

Pixel Rate

If using lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the Radeon HD 4730 is superior to the Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB, though not by far. (explain)

Radeon HD 4730 5600 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6570 (OEM) 1GB 5200 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 400 (8%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of data (measured in MB per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface within a second. The number is calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the graphics card can possibly write to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the maximum fill rate.
