Compare any two graphics cards:
GeForce GTX 550 Ti vs Radeon HD 6870
IntroThe GeForce GTX 550 Ti features a core clock speed of 900 MHz and a GDDR5 memory speed of 1026 MHz. It also uses a 192-bit memory bus, and makes use of a 40 nm design. It features 192 SPUs, 32 Texture Address Units, and 24 Raster Operation Units.Compare all of that to the Radeon HD 6870, which features GPU clock speed of 900 MHz, and 1024 MB of GDDR5 RAM running at 1050 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also is made up of 1120 SPUs, 56 Texture Address Units, and 32 ROPs.

3DMark Fire Strike Graphics Score
Power Usage and Theoretical BenchmarksPower Consumption (Max TDP)
Memory BandwidthAs far as performance goes, the Radeon HD 6870 should in theory be quite a bit superior to the GeForce GTX 550 Ti in general. (explain)
Texel RateThe Radeon HD 6870 should be quite a bit (approximately 75%) better at AF than the GeForce GTX 550 Ti. (explain)
Pixel RateThe Radeon HD 6870 is much (about 33%) faster with regards to FSAA than the GeForce GTX 550 Ti, and also will be able to handle higher screen resolutions better. (explain)
Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit. Price Comparison

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of information (in units of MB per second) that can be moved across the external memory interface within a second. It is calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory clock speed. If it uses DDR type memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions. Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total texture units by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in one second. Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the graphics card can possibly record to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate also depends on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
