GeForce GTX 460 150 Watts
Difference: 34 Watts (29%)

Memory Bandwidth

The GeForce GTX 550 Ti should in theory be a bit faster than the GeForce GTX 460 overall. (explain)

GeForce GTX 550 Ti 98496 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 460 86400 MB/sec
Difference: 12096 (14%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 460 is a lot (about 31%) faster with regards to AF than the GeForce GTX 550 Ti. (explain)

GeForce GTX 460 37800 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 550 Ti 28800 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 9000 (31%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high resolution is important to you, then the GeForce GTX 550 Ti is the winner, and very much so. (explain)

GeForce GTX 550 Ti 21600 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 460 16200 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 5400 (33%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of information (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transferred across the external memory interface within a second. The number is calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory clock speed. If it uses DDR type RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This is worked out by multiplying the total texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the graphics card could possibly write to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.

Nick says:

It seems that the 550 Ti uses a third less power and beats the 460 2 out of 3 catagories. Less cores but greater performance, 550 Ti is the winner.

Jack says:

Nope your wrong GTX 460 is more powerfull

Frank says:

Nope, you're both wrong. Intel HD is the king.

Frank says:

This comparison is done with the weaker 768mb GTX 460...

Not the standard one with 1024mb 256bit memory at 115200 MB/sec.

jajaja intel hd

Intel says:

Intel HD FTW! HAHAHAHA!

Man says:

Intel HD is the absolute pinnacle of performance. Definitely Intel HD for the win.

Johnny says:

Intel hd? Kkkkk... 550Ti win! In this comparation (: but..

thaghost says:

I only wish I could afford something with Intel HD, It's some top of the line stuff.

Assassin says:

Intel HD is effective but not as much as GTX 550 ti It has only one thing less which is Texel rate & due to less power cosumption it wins...

Jax says:

Lol intel HD.... That's so funny
