GeForce GTX 470 vs Radeon HD 6750

Intro

The GeForce GTX 470 features core clock speeds of 607 MHz on the GPU, and 837 MHz on the 1280 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 448 SPUs as well as 56 Texture Address Units and 40 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare all of that to the Radeon HD 6750, which features GPU clock speed of 725 MHz, and 512 MB of GDDR5 RAM running at 1000 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also is made up of 720 SPUs, 36 Texture Address Units, and 16 Raster Operation Units.

Radeon HD 6750 86 Watts
GeForce GTX 470 215 Watts
Difference: 129 Watts (150%)

Memory Bandwidth

The GeForce GTX 470, in theory, should perform quite a bit faster than the Radeon HD 6750 overall. (explain)

GeForce GTX 470 133920 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6750 64000 MB/sec
Difference: 69920 (109%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 470 is quite a bit (more or less 30%) more effective at anisotropic filtering than the Radeon HD 6750. (explain)

GeForce GTX 470 33992 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6750 26100 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 7892 (30%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce GTX 470 will be a lot (more or less 109%) better at full screen anti-aliasing than the Radeon HD 6750, and capable of handling higher resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)

GeForce GTX 470 24280 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6750 11600 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 12680 (109%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of data (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transported over the external memory interface in a second. It is calculated by multiplying the bus width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are applied per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the video card could possibly write to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
