Radeon HD 4850 512MB 110 Watts
GeForce GTX 465 200 Watts
Difference: 90 Watts (82%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the GeForce GTX 465 should perform a lot faster than the Radeon HD 4850 512MB in general. (explain)

GeForce GTX 465 102592 MB/sec
Radeon HD 4850 512MB 63552 MB/sec
Difference: 39040 (61%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 465 will be a little bit (more or less 7%) more effective at anisotropic filtering than the Radeon HD 4850 512MB. (explain)

GeForce GTX 465 26708 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 4850 512MB 25000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 1708 (7%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high resolution is important to you, then the GeForce GTX 465 is a better choice, and very much so. (explain)

GeForce GTX 465 19424 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 4850 512MB 10000 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 9424 (94%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of information (counted in megabytes per second) that can be transported past the external memory interface in one second. It is worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR type memory, it should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are applied per second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics chip could possibly write to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on quite a few other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
