GeForce GT 450 (OEM) vs GeForce GTS 450 1GB

Intro

The GeForce GT 450 (OEM) features a core clock speed of 790 MHz and a GDDR5 memory frequency of 1000 MHz. It also features a 192-bit memory bus, and makes use of a 40 nm design. It is comprised of 144 SPUs, 24 Texture Address Units, and 24 ROPs.

Compare that to the GeForce GTS 450 1GB, which comes with core speeds of 783 MHz on the GPU, and 902 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 192 SPUs along with 32 Texture Address Units and 16 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Both cards have the same power consumption.

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the GeForce GT 450 (OEM) should be 66% faster than the GeForce GTS 450 1GB overall, because of its higher data rate. (explain)

GeForce GT 450 (OEM) 96000 MB/sec
GeForce GTS 450 1GB 57728 MB/sec
Difference: 38272 (66%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTS 450 1GB is a lot (about 32%) better at anisotropic filtering than the GeForce GT 450 (OEM). (explain)

GeForce GTS 450 1GB 25056 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GT 450 (OEM) 18960 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 6096 (32%)

Pixel Rate

If using lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the GeForce GT 450 (OEM) is superior to the GeForce GTS 450 1GB, by a large margin. (explain)

GeForce GT 450 (OEM) 18960 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTS 450 1GB 12528 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 6432 (51%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be transported past the external memory interface in a second. It's worked out by multiplying the interface width by its memory speed. If it uses DDR type memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the video card could possibly record to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
