GeForce GT 450 (OEM) vs Radeon HD 6770 1GB

Intro

The GeForce GT 450 (OEM) features a GPU clock speed of 790 MHz, and the 1536 MB of GDDR5 memory is set to run at 1000 MHz through a 192-bit bus. It also is comprised of 144 Stream Processors, 24 Texture Address Units, and 24 ROPs.

Compare that to the Radeon HD 6770 1GB, which comes with clock speeds of 900 MHz on the GPU, and 1050 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 800 SPUs as well as 40 Texture Address Units and 16 ROPs.

GeForce GT 450 (OEM) 96000 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6770 1GB 67200 MB/sec
Difference: 28800 (43%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 6770 1GB should be much (about 90%) more effective at AF than the GeForce GT 450 (OEM). (explain)

Radeon HD 6770 1GB 36000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GT 450 (OEM) 18960 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 17040 (90%)

Pixel Rate

The GeForce GT 450 (OEM) is much (more or less 32%) faster with regards to full screen anti-aliasing than the Radeon HD 6770 1GB, and also should be capable of handling higher screen resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)

GeForce GT 450 (OEM) 18960 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6770 1GB 14400 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 4560 (32%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of data (measured in megabytes per second) that can be moved across the external memory interface in a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR type RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This number is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics card can possibly write to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is calculated by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
