Compare any two graphics cards:
Radeon HD 6850 vs Radeon HD 6950 2GB
IntroThe Radeon HD 6850 uses a 40 nm design. AMD has set the core speed at 775 MHz. The GDDR5 memory runs at a speed of 1000 MHz on this particular card. It features 960 SPUs as well as 48 TAUs and 32 ROPs.Compare all that to the Radeon HD 6950 2GB, which makes use of a 40 nm design. AMD has clocked the core frequency at 800 MHz. The GDDR5 memory works at a speed of 1250 MHz on this particular card. It features 1408 SPUs as well as 88 Texture Address Units and 32 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical BenchmarksPower Consumption (Max TDP)
Memory BandwidthTheoretically speaking, the Radeon HD 6950 2GB will be 25% faster than the Radeon HD 6850 in general, due to its greater bandwidth. (explain)
Texel RateThe Radeon HD 6950 2GB should be a lot (approximately 89%) better at AF than the Radeon HD 6850. (explain)
Pixel RateThe Radeon HD 6950 2GB will be a little bit (more or less 3%) more effective at anti-aliasing than the Radeon HD 6850, and should be able to handle higher resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)
Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit. Price Comparison

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of information (in units of MB per second) that can be moved past the external memory interface within a second. It is calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions. Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are processed in one second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied per second. Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics card could possibly record to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the number of colour ROPs by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.

One Response to “Radeon HD 6850 vs Radeon HD 6950 2GB”[...] __________________ Nu: SQ 1x220kg - BP 1x150kg - DL 1x215kg - MP 1x100kg Doel eind 2011: SQ 1x280kg - BP 1x180kg - DL 1x280kg - MP 1x130kg [...]
