GeForce GT 210 vs Radeon HD 6770 1GB

Intro

The GeForce GT 210 has a GPU clock speed of 589 MHz, and the 512 MB of DDR3 memory is set to run at 800 MHz through a 64-bit bus. It also is made up of 16 SPUs, 8 TAUs, and 4 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Radeon HD 6770 1GB, which features core clock speeds of 900 MHz on the GPU, and 1050 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 800 SPUs as well as 40 Texture Address Units and 16 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce GT 210 31 Watts
Radeon HD 6770 1GB 108 Watts
Difference: 77 Watts (248%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically, the Radeon HD 6770 1GB should perform a lot faster than the GeForce GT 210 in general. (explain)

Radeon HD 6770 1GB 67200 MB/sec
GeForce GT 210 12800 MB/sec
Difference: 54400 (425%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 6770 1GB will be a lot (approximately 664%) more effective at AF than the GeForce GT 210. (explain)

Radeon HD 6770 1GB 36000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GT 210 4712 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 31288 (664%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon HD 6770 1GB should be much (more or less 511%) more effective at full screen anti-aliasing than the GeForce GT 210, and also will be capable of handling higher resolutions without losing too much performance. (explain)

Radeon HD 6770 1GB 14400 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GT 210 2356 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 12044 (511%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of information (counted in megabytes per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface in one second. It is worked out by multiplying the bus width by its memory clock speed. If it uses DDR memory, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics card could possibly write to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the maximum fill rate.
