Compare any two graphics cards:
GeForce 8600 GT 512MB DDR2 vs Radeon HD 5450
IntroThe GeForce 8600 GT 512MB DDR2 features a clock frequency of 540 MHz and a DDR2 memory frequency of 400 MHz. It also makes use of a 128-bit memory bus, and makes use of a 80 nm design. It features 32 SPUs, 16 Texture Address Units, and 8 ROPs.Compare all of that to the Radeon HD 5450, which uses a 40 nm design. AMD has clocked the core speed at 650 MHz. The DDR3 RAM runs at a speed of 800 MHz on this specific model. It features 80(16x5) SPUs as well as 8 Texture Address Units and 4 Rasterization Operator Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical BenchmarksPower Consumption (Max TDP)
Memory BandwidthBoth cards have exactly the same memory bandwidth, so theoretically they should perform exactly the same. (explain)
Texel RateThe GeForce 8600 GT 512MB DDR2 should be a lot (approximately 66%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the Radeon HD 5450. (explain)
Pixel RateThe GeForce 8600 GT 512MB DDR2 is a lot (approximately 66%) more effective at FSAA than the Radeon HD 5450, and will be able to handle higher screen resolutions while still performing well. (explain)
Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit. Price Comparison

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of data (measured in MB per second) that can be moved across the external memory interface within a second. It's calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and higher screen resolutions. Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied per second. Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics chip can possibly record to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the number of colour ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
