GeForce 920M vs Radeon RX 5700 XT

Intro

The GeForce 920M features a GPU core speed of 954 MHz, and the 2048 MB of DDR3 RAM runs at 900 MHz through a 64-bit bus. It also features 384 SPUs, 32 TAUs, and 8 Raster Operation Units.

Compare that to the Radeon RX 5700 XT, which has GPU clock speed of 1605 MHz, and 8096 MB of GDDR6 memory running at 1750 MHz through a 256-bit bus. It also is made up of 2560 Stream Processors, 160 Texture Address Units, and 64 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon RX 5700 XT should theoretically be much faster than the GeForce 920M overall. (explain)

Radeon RX 5700 XT 458752 MB/sec
GeForce 920M 14400 MB/sec
Difference: 444352 (3086%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 5700 XT will be much (about 741%) faster with regards to anisotropic filtering than the GeForce 920M. (explain)

Radeon RX 5700 XT 256800 Mtexels/sec
GeForce 920M 30528 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 226272 (741%)

Pixel Rate

If using lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the Radeon RX 5700 XT is the winner, by far. (explain)

Radeon RX 5700 XT 102720 Mpixels/sec
GeForce 920M 7632 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 95088 (1246%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of data (counted in megabytes per second) that can be transported over the external memory interface in one second. It's calculated by multiplying the interface width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics card can possibly write to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.
