Radeon HD 7750 vs Radeon RX 460 2GB

Intro

The Radeon HD 7750 comes with clock speeds of 800 MHz on the GPU, and 1125 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 512 SPUs along with 32 Texture Address Units and 16 ROPs.

Compare all that to the Radeon RX 460 2GB, which has core speeds of 1090 MHz on the GPU, and 1750 MHz on the 2048 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 896 SPUs as well as 56 TAUs and 16 Rasterization Operator Units.

Radeon HD 7750 55 Watts
Radeon RX 460 2GB 75 Watts
Difference: 20 Watts (36%)

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically, the Radeon RX 460 2GB should be quite a bit faster than the Radeon HD 7750 in general. (explain)

Radeon RX 460 2GB 112000 MB/sec
Radeon HD 7750 72000 MB/sec
Difference: 40000 (56%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon RX 460 2GB is quite a bit (more or less 138%) more effective at texture filtering than the Radeon HD 7750. (explain)

Radeon RX 460 2GB 61040 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 7750 25600 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 35440 (138%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon RX 460 2GB should be quite a bit (about 36%) more effective at FSAA than the Radeon HD 7750, and also capable of handling higher resolutions better. (explain)

Radeon RX 460 2GB 17440 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 7750 12800 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 4640 (36%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of data (in units of megabytes per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface in a second. It's calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics chip could possibly record to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel fill rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.
