Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB vs Radeon R9 M370X

Intro

The Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB has core speeds of 800 MHz on the GPU, and 1000 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 480 SPUs along with 24 TAUs and 8 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon R9 M370X, which features GPU clock speed of 800 MHz, and 2048 MB of GDDR5 memory set to run at 1125 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also is made up of 640 Stream Processors, 40 TAUs, and 16 Raster Operation Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically, the Radeon R9 M370X should be a small bit faster than the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB in general. (explain)

Radeon R9 M370X 72000 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB 64000 MB/sec
Difference: 8000 (13%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon R9 M370X is much (approximately 67%) more effective at AF than the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB. (explain)

Radeon R9 M370X 32000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB 19200 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 12800 (67%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon R9 M370X should be quite a bit (approximately 100%) better at full screen anti-aliasing than the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB, and also should be able to handle higher screen resolutions better. (explain)

Radeon R9 M370X 12800 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB 6400 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 6400 (100%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of information (measured in megabytes per second) that can be moved across the external memory interface in one second. The number is calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR memory, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics card could possibly record to the local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is worked out by multiplying the number of colour ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
