Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) vs Radeon R9 M365X

Intro

The Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) has a GPU core speed of 625 MHz, and the 512 MB of GDDR3 memory runs at 800 MHz through a 64-bit bus. It also is comprised of 160 SPUs, 8 TAUs, and 4 Raster Operation Units.

Compare those specs to the Radeon R9 M365X, which has GPU clock speed of 925 MHz, and 4096 MB of GDDR5 memory running at 1125 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also features 640 SPUs, 40 TAUs, and 16 ROPs.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

As far as performance goes, the Radeon R9 M365X should in theory be quite a bit better than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) overall. (explain)

Radeon R9 M365X 72000 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 12800 MB/sec
Difference: 59200 (463%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon R9 M365X should be quite a bit (more or less 640%) better at texture filtering than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM). (explain)

Radeon R9 M365X 37000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 5000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 32000 (640%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon R9 M365X will be much (more or less 492%) faster with regards to full screen anti-aliasing than the Radeon HD 6450 (OEM), and should be able to handle higher screen resolutions without losing too much performance. (explain)

Radeon R9 M365X 14800 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6450 (OEM) 2500 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 12300 (492%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of information (in units of megabytes per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface in one second. It's calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory speed. If the card has DDR type memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total texture units by the core speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics card could possibly write to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel output rate also depends on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the maximum fill rate.
