GeForce 920M vs Radeon R7 M360

Intro

The GeForce 920M comes with a GPU core clock speed of 954 MHz, and the 2048 MB of DDR3 RAM runs at 900 MHz through a 64-bit bus. It also features 384 Stream Processors, 32 TAUs, and 8 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Radeon R7 M360, which features GPU clock speed of 1125 MHz, and 2048 MB of DDR3 memory running at 1000 MHz through a 64-bit bus. It also is made up of 384 SPUs, 24 Texture Address Units, and 8 Raster Operation Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

Performance-wise, the Radeon R7 M360 should theoretically be a little bit better than the GeForce 920M in general. (explain)

Radeon R7 M360 16000 MB/sec
GeForce 920M 14400 MB/sec
Difference: 1600 (11%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce 920M should be a small bit (approximately 13%) faster with regards to AF than the Radeon R7 M360. (explain)

GeForce 920M 30528 Mtexels/sec
Radeon R7 M360 27000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 3528 (13%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon R7 M360 is a small bit (more or less 18%) more effective at FSAA than the GeForce 920M, and will be able to handle higher resolutions without slowing down too much. (explain)

Radeon R7 M360 9000 Mpixels/sec
GeForce 920M 7632 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 1368 (18%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of information (counted in MB per second) that can be moved over the external memory interface within a second. The number is calculated by multiplying the interface width by its memory clock speed. If it uses DDR memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics chip could possibly write to its local memory per second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the number of Raster Operations Pipelines by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
