Radeon HD 3850 512MB 75 Watts
Difference: 32 Watts (74%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the Radeon HD 3850 512MB should be 84% faster than the Radeon HD 5570 in general, because of its greater data rate. (explain)

Radeon HD 3850 512MB 52992 MB/sec
Radeon HD 5570 28800 MB/sec
Difference: 24192 (84%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 5570 should be much (about 22%) better at texture filtering than the Radeon HD 3850 512MB. (explain)

Radeon HD 5570 13000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 3850 512MB 10688 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 2312 (22%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high resolution is important to you, then the Radeon HD 3850 512MB is the winner, by a large margin. (explain)

Radeon HD 3850 512MB 10688 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 5570 5200 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 5488 (106%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of data (measured in MB per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface in one second. It's calculated by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR type memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the video card can possibly write to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the max fill rate.
