Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Memory Bandwidth

The Radeon HD 4850 2GB, in theory, should perform quite a bit faster than the Radeon R5 M230 overall. (explain)

Radeon HD 4850 2GB 63552 MB/sec
Radeon R5 M230 16000 MB/sec
Difference: 47552 (297%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon HD 4850 2GB will be much (about 60%) more effective at anisotropic filtering than the Radeon R5 M230. (explain)

Radeon HD 4850 2GB 25000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon R5 M230 15600 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 9400 (60%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high resolution is important to you, then the Radeon HD 4850 2GB is superior to the Radeon R5 M230, by far. (explain)

Radeon HD 4850 2GB 10000 Mpixels/sec
Radeon R5 M230 3120 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 6880 (221%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the max amount of information (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface within a second. It's calculated by multiplying the interface width by its memory clock speed. If the card has DDR type memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This figure is calculated by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels the graphics card can possibly write to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is worked out by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel output rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
