GeForce GTX 950 vs Radeon HD 6770 1GB

Intro

The GeForce GTX 950 uses a 28 nm design. nVidia has set the core frequency at 1024 MHz. The GDDR5 memory works at a speed of 1652 MHz on this card. It features 768 SPUs along with 48 Texture Address Units and 32 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare those specifications to the Radeon HD 6770 1GB, which has core speeds of 900 MHz on the GPU, and 1050 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 800 SPUs as well as 40 Texture Address Units and 16 ROPs.

Difference: 18 Watts (20%)

Memory Bandwidth

In theory, the GeForce GTX 950 is 57% quicker than the Radeon HD 6770 1GB in general, because of its higher bandwidth. (explain)

GeForce GTX 950 105728 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6770 1GB 67200 MB/sec
Difference: 38528 (57%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 950 should be much (approximately 37%) faster with regards to anisotropic filtering than the Radeon HD 6770 1GB. (explain)

GeForce GTX 950 49152 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6770 1GB 36000 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 13152 (37%)

Pixel Rate

If using a high resolution is important to you, then the GeForce GTX 950 is superior to the Radeon HD 6770 1GB, and very much so. (explain)

GeForce GTX 950 32768 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6770 1GB 14400 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 18368 (128%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (counted in megabytes per second) that can be transferred past the external memory interface within a second. It's calculated by multiplying the bus width by its memory speed. In the case of DDR RAM, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the bandwidth is, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum number of texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This is worked out by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The higher this number, the better the card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics chip could possibly write to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The number is calculated by multiplying the amount of Raster Operations Pipelines by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the max fill rate.
