Radeon HD 3690/3830 vs Radeon R7 360

Intro

The Radeon HD 3690/3830 uses a 55 nm design. AMD has clocked the core speed at 668 MHz. The GDDR3 memory runs at a speed of 828 MHz on this specific card. It features 320(64x5) SPUs along with 16 TAUs and 16 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Radeon R7 360, which features a GPU core clock speed of 1050 MHz, and 2048 MB of GDDR5 RAM set to run at 1625 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also is comprised of 768 SPUs, 48 Texture Address Units, and 16 Raster Operation Units.

Radeon R7 360 104000 MB/sec
Radeon HD 3690/3830 26496 MB/sec
Difference: 77504 (293%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon R7 360 should be a lot (about 372%) better at anisotropic filtering than the Radeon HD 3690/3830. (explain)

Radeon R7 360 50400 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 3690/3830 10688 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 39712 (372%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high resolution is important to you, then the Radeon R7 360 is superior to the Radeon HD 3690/3830, by far. (explain)

Radeon R7 360 16800 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 3690/3830 10688 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 6112 (57%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (in units of megabytes per second) that can be transported across the external memory interface in one second. It's worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by its memory speed. If it uses DDR type memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed per second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels applied in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the video card could possibly record to the local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also sometimes called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel output rate also depends on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the max fill rate.
