GeForce GTX 970 vs Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB

Intro

The GeForce GTX 970 features clock speeds of 1050 MHz on the GPU, and 1750 MHz on the 4096 MB of GDDR5 memory. It features 1664 SPUs along with 104 Texture Address Units and 64 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare all of that to the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB, which uses a 40 nm design. AMD has clocked the core speed at 800 MHz. The GDDR5 memory is set to run at a speed of 1000 MHz on this particular model. It features 480 SPUs along with 24 Texture Address Units and 8 Rasterization Operator Units.

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB 63 Watts
GeForce GTX 970 145 Watts
Difference: 82 Watts (130%)

Memory Bandwidth

The GeForce GTX 970 should theoretically perform quite a bit faster than the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB in general. (explain)

GeForce GTX 970 224000 MB/sec
Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB 64000 MB/sec
Difference: 160000 (250%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 970 is a lot (more or less 469%) faster with regards to anisotropic filtering than the Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB. (explain)

GeForce GTX 970 109200 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB 19200 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 90000 (469%)

Pixel Rate

If running with high levels of AA is important to you, then the GeForce GTX 970 is a better choice, by a large margin. (explain)

GeForce GTX 970 67200 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 6670 (OEM) 1GB 6400 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 60800 (950%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the largest amount of data (in units of MB per second) that can be moved across the external memory interface in a second. It is calculated by multiplying the bus width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR type RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the memory bandwidth, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This is calculated by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the video card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed in a second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels the video card can possibly record to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. The figure is calculated by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
