The GeForce GTX 660 Ti should theoretically perform much faster than the GeForce GTX 750 Ti in general. (explain)

GeForce GTX 660 Ti 144000 MB/sec
GeForce GTX 750 Ti 86400 MB/sec
Difference: 57600 (67%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 660 Ti should be much (approximately 151%) better at texture filtering than the GeForce GTX 750 Ti. (explain)

GeForce GTX 660 Ti 102480 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 750 Ti 40800 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 61680 (151%)

Pixel Rate

If running with high levels of AA is important to you, then the GeForce GTX 660 Ti is the winner, by far. (explain)

GeForce GTX 660 Ti 21960 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 750 Ti 16320 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 5640 (35%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the maximum amount of data (in units of MB per second) that can be moved across the external memory interface within a second. It's calculated by multiplying the card's bus width by its memory speed. If it uses DDR memory, it must be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The better the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the most pixels that the graphics chip can possibly record to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the number of ROPs by the the card's clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for filling the screen with pixels (the image). The actual pixel output rate also depends on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to get to the maximum fill rate.

Yet I keep reading people praising the 750ti. Such a sad little card compared to the 660ti.

Yep says:

They think that a higher number equals a superior card.
