Memory Bandwidth: Memory bandwidth is the largest amount of information (in units of megabytes per second) that can be transported past the external memory interface within a second. The number is worked out by multiplying the card's bus width by the speed of its memory. If it uses DDR type RAM, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and high resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are applied in one second. This is calculated by multiplying the total amount of texture units by the core clock speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics card can possibly write to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of Render Output Units by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - sometimes also referred to as Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on many other factors, especially the memory bandwidth - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to get to the max fill rate.

The r9 270/270x used to cost around the $300 before the huge bitcoin/litecoin rush, so after the inflation of AMD card prices, they dropped considerably, placing the r9 270 to about $170 range. So yes, it is a pointless comparison.

And yet I purchased my r9 270 for about 150. As the price point stands now, the only pointless part of the comparison is that the 750ti is pointless. For pretty close to the exact same price you can get double the performance.

I am worried about the extra heat generated by the AMD card (150 vs. 60 Watts). What does this say about longevity and how does this affect the rest of the computer's components?

Dell offers both cards in their XPS 8700 Desktop computer. I tend towards the nvidia card because of lower price and better (perhaps) reliability. I am willing to swallow the lower performance. I am not much of a gamer 🙂

my psu is 400w which is very small would it be worth spending an extra £40 ($61.58) for a new psu and then buy r9 270 or should i settle with the 750ti, fyi i game on a single monitor at 1680x1050
