GeForce GTX 650 vs GeForce GTX 750

Intro

The GeForce GTX 650 features core speeds of 1058 MHz on the GPU, and 1250 MHz on the 1024 MB of GDDR5 RAM. It features 384 SPUs along with 32 Texture Address Units and 16 ROPs.

Compare those specifications to the GeForce GTX 750, which comes with GPU clock speed of 1020 MHz, and 1024 MB of GDDR5 RAM running at 1250 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also is made up of 512 SPUs, 32 TAUs, and 16 Raster Operation Units.

Benchmarks

These are real-world performance benchmarks that were submitted by Hardware Compare users. The scores seen here are the average of all benchmarks submitted for each respective test and hardware.

3DMark Fire Strike Graphics Score

GeForce GTX 750 3958 points
GeForce GTX 650 2263 points
Difference: 1695 (75%)

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Power Consumption (Max TDP)

GeForce GTX 750 55 Watts
GeForce GTX 650 64 Watts
Difference: 9 Watts (16%)

Memory Bandwidth

Both cards have exactly the same memory bandwidth, so theoretically they should perform the same. (explain)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 650 will be a small bit (more or less 4%) faster with regards to texture filtering than the GeForce GTX 750. (explain)

GeForce GTX 650 33856 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX 750 32640 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 1216 (4%)

Pixel Rate

If running with a high screen resolution is important to you, then the GeForce GTX 650 is a better choice, but it probably won't make a huge difference. (explain)

GeForce GTX 650 16928 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX 750 16320 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 608 (4%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the maximum amount of information (measured in MB per second) that can be transported over the external memory interface in one second. It is calculated by multiplying the interface width by its memory clock speed. In the case of DDR memory, it should be multiplied by 2 once again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The better the bandwidth is, the faster the card will be in general. It especially helps with AA, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be applied in one second. This is calculated by multiplying the total texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better this number, the better the video card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum number of pixels that the graphics chip could possibly record to the local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the amount of ROPs by the the core speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel rate is also dependant on lots of other factors, especially the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
