Radeon HD 3650 512MB vs Radeon R7 250X 2GB

Intro

The Radeon HD 3650 512MB has a core clock speed of 725 MHz and a GDDR3 memory speed of 800 MHz. It also makes use of a 128-bit bus, and uses a 55 nm design. It is made up of 120(24x5) SPUs, 8 TAUs, and 4 ROPs.

Compare those specs to the Radeon R7 250X 2GB, which comes with GPU clock speed of 1000 MHz, and 2048 MB of GDDR5 memory set to run at 1125 MHz through a 128-bit bus. It also is made up of 640 SPUs, 40 TAUs, and 16 Raster Operation Units.

Radeon R7 250X 2GB 72000 MB/sec
Radeon HD 3650 512MB 25600 MB/sec
Difference: 46400 (181%)

Texel Rate

The Radeon R7 250X 2GB will be a lot (about 590%) more effective at texture filtering than the Radeon HD 3650 512MB. (explain)

Radeon R7 250X 2GB 40000 Mtexels/sec
Radeon HD 3650 512MB 5800 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 34200 (590%)

Pixel Rate

The Radeon R7 250X 2GB is quite a bit (about 452%) faster with regards to anti-aliasing than the Radeon HD 3650 512MB, and also will be able to handle higher resolutions more effectively. (explain)

Radeon R7 250X 2GB 16000 Mpixels/sec
Radeon HD 3650 512MB 2900 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 13100 (452%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of information (in units of MB per second) that can be transported past the external memory interface in one second. The number is worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. In the case of DDR RAM, it must be multiplied by 2 again. If DDR5, multiply by ANOTHER 2x. The higher the card's memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, High Dynamic Range and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum amount of texture map elements (texels) that are processed per second. This figure is worked out by multiplying the total texture units of the card by the core clock speed of the chip. The higher the texel rate, the better the card will be at handling texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels processed per second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels that the graphics chip could possibly record to its local memory in one second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is worked out by multiplying the number of Render Output Units by the the core clock speed. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - also called Render Output Units) are responsible for drawing the pixels (image) on the screen. The actual pixel output rate also depends on quite a few other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth - the lower the memory bandwidth is, the lower the ability to reach the maximum fill rate.
