GeForce GTX 780 Ti vs GeForce GTX Titan

Intro

The GeForce GTX 780 Ti makes use of a 28 nm design. nVidia has set the core frequency at 875 MHz. The GDDR5 RAM is set to run at a speed of 1750 MHz on this model. It features 2880 SPUs as well as 240 TAUs and 48 Rasterization Operator Units.

Compare all that to the GeForce GTX Titan, which has a GPU core clock speed of 837 MHz, and 6144 MB of GDDR5 RAM running at 1502 MHz through a 384-bit bus. It also features 2688 Stream Processors, 224 Texture Address Units, and 48 Raster Operation Units.

Benchmarks

These are real-world performance benchmarks that were submitted by Hardware Compare users. The scores seen here are the average of all benchmarks submitted for each respective test and hardware.

3DMark Fire Strike Graphics Score

GeForce GTX 780 Ti 10900 points
GeForce GTX Titan 10162 points
Difference: 738 (7%)

Grand Theft Auto V | 1920x1080 | Very High

GeForce GTX 780 Ti 56 FPS
GeForce GTX Titan 52 FPS
Difference: 4 (8%)

Power Usage and Theoretical Benchmarks

Both cards have the same power consumption.

Memory Bandwidth

Theoretically speaking, the GeForce GTX 780 Ti will be 17% faster than the GeForce GTX Titan overall, due to its higher data rate. (explain)

GeForce GTX 780 Ti 336000 MB/sec
GeForce GTX Titan 288384 MB/sec
Difference: 47616 (17%)

Texel Rate

The GeForce GTX 780 Ti is a small bit (more or less 12%) faster with regards to AF than the GeForce GTX Titan. (explain)

GeForce GTX 780 Ti 210000 Mtexels/sec
GeForce GTX Titan 187488 Mtexels/sec
Difference: 22512 (12%)

Pixel Rate

If running with lots of anti-aliasing is important to you, then the GeForce GTX 780 Ti is superior to the GeForce GTX Titan, though not by far. (explain)

GeForce GTX 780 Ti 42000 Mpixels/sec
GeForce GTX Titan 40176 Mpixels/sec
Difference: 1824 (5%)

Please note that the above 'benchmarks' are all just theoretical - the results were calculated based on the card's specifications, and real-world performance may (and probably will) vary at least a bit.

Memory Bandwidth: Bandwidth is the max amount of data (measured in megabytes per second) that can be transferred over the external memory interface in one second. It's worked out by multiplying the card's interface width by the speed of its memory. If the card has DDR memory, the result should be multiplied by 2 again. If it uses DDR5, multiply by 4 instead. The higher the memory bandwidth, the better the card will be in general. It especially helps with anti-aliasing, HDR and higher screen resolutions.

Texel Rate: Texel rate is the maximum texture map elements (texels) that can be processed in one second. This number is worked out by multiplying the total number of texture units by the core speed of the chip. The better the texel rate, the better the graphics card will be at texture filtering (anisotropic filtering - AF). It is measured in millions of texels in one second.

Pixel Rate: Pixel rate is the maximum amount of pixels the video card can possibly record to its local memory in a second - measured in millions of pixels per second. Pixel rate is calculated by multiplying the amount of colour ROPs by the clock speed of the card. ROPs (Raster Operations Pipelines - aka Render Output Units) are responsible for outputting the pixels (image) to the screen. The actual pixel rate also depends on many other factors, most notably the memory bandwidth of the card - the lower the bandwidth is, the lower the potential to reach the maximum fill rate.
